Affiliate Marketing, BANS, VRE
No Comments
Recently there was/is a 12 ring bout between Google and BANS. Well, we’re in the 10 round and since the ref is also Google, I think it’s going to be obvious who is going to win.
What am I talking about??
When BANS first came out, it was great! It was a great product and everyone made money. Then allot more people got started using BANS, so to make our sites stand out we modified our templates to look different then everyone else’s and started adding content pages. This worked well for awhile, then…
Google changed the way they looked at web sites and started de-indexing what they considered “thin sites”. A BANS site is considered a thin site to Google and started de-indexing (de-indexing is when your site is REMOVED from Google Search Engine also known as the Google Slap) them.
Then some of us started to change the way we went about it. We started building WordPress blogs, full of original content and linking to our BANS store. Google seems to like the way we are going about it but there are some major pit falls.
1. You can’t put up 100 BANS stores anymore Can you imagine posting to 100 blogs a day?
2. Posting original content to your blog takes time, allot of time
3. Because of the posting time factor you can only put up as many as you can handle in a week 3 - 10 sites.
4. And lets not forget, you need to be working on your other streams of income, affilate marketing, VRE, etc…
UPDATE:
I started to wright this post last week. In that time Google has de-indexed one of my BANS/WP sites. That’s where the blog is in a folder NOT the root directory. I’m pulling the plug on any new BANS sites and will only be posting to the sites that are still indexed once or twice a month. I’m in a wait a see mode, I don’t want to spend any more time on a project that might be de-indexed at any moment.
I’m going to spend my time on my other projects. One is up and running as I build it, www.ExtensiveInfo.com and I’m also building a affiliate site that won’t be accessible online until I get more of it completed.
I’ll be using this area to post on each of these sites as I build them. ExtensiveInfo.com is a VRE/PLR site (Virtual Real Estate / Public Label Rights) and as I said above, the other is an affiliate site. More on this in our next post.

Just click on the link below for a quick video on keeping search engine spiders out of some folders or your entire site. You may ask, WHY I would want to keep SE spiders out of my site? Sometimes I build a website live as I go and other times I want to complete a certain percentage of the site before I let search engines index my pages. When your in the building stage it’s best not to get pages indexed because if you remove a page for what ever reason and it’s been indexed, you will start getting 404 errors (page not located) and creating more work for yourself.
Disclaimer: This is my first video so it’s a little rough. Also after looking at the video I see that I misspoke a few times. I used the term de-index several times. De-indexing implies that it has already been index. The whole idea here it to prevent the search engines from indexing your site or folders before your ready to let them in.
Here is the link to the video. It’s only 2 to 3 minutes long.

Affiliate Marketing, How-To

As I mentioned in my last post I’m working on a new WordPress affiliate site, offering products from several different venders. This is a new type of website for me, so what I thought I’d do is post here what I’m doing so you can follow along and hopefully show you some new things and give you some ideas for your own project.
I want to get the site approximately 50% done before I go live with it so I’ll need to set up the domain for no-indexing to keep me out of the search engines until I’m ready to go live. I’ll post a video on how to set up your domain for no-indexing tomorrow.
I installed WP on the domain and also created an index.htm file and uploaded it to the root directory. This way if you type in the domain name you will see the index.htm page and not WP. When I’m ready to go live all I’ll need to do is remove this file and WordPress will come up by default.
I uploaded the following plugins:
alinks
all in one seo pack
cforms
Google sitemap generator
adsense deluxe
privacy policy
I’ll be uploading a few more plugins later today.
I uploaded a theme template. I usually don’t like dark background themes but for this site I think it’s a good fit. I’ll have to play with it a little and see how ads, banners, pictures, etc… look with this background. I may wind up replacing the theme if I’m not happy with the look.

You may have noticed the new look with Google and Gmail in iGoogle. All the links in your email from gmail are now not working. If you wish to restore these links, follow the following steps as outlined by Google:
To enable this feature in Gmail:
1. Sign in to Gmail.
2. Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page.
3. Set ‘Browser Connection’ to ‘Always use https.’
4. Click Save Changes.
5. Reload Gmail.
Update:
When you click on your Gmail inbox, look in the upper right hand corner and click on “Launch Full Gmail”, this will bring back the full version of gmail with all the links active.

VRE, WordPress

I’m currently working on two projects (and blogging of course). An VRE site, ExtensiveInfo.com . You can find information on a large verity of topics at Extensive Info. As you can see if you clicked on the link, I’m still in the building process. I try and upload four new topics each week. I’m testing out a theory, well maybe theory is the wrong word. Some IM’ers say to build a site 50% to 75% of the way before you go live with it. Others say build it slow and steady, posting every day if possible because the search engines love it. The truth is, I don’t know who is right. So I’m building this site slow and steady monetizing this site with adsense, Amazon.com and affiliate links.
My second project is a site for selling affiliate products from several different affiliates, with all on the same theme. This site I’m going to complete at least 50% before I go live with it. I’ve registered the domain name for it over the weekend and now I’m looking for the right WordPress theme for this site. Right now I’m still working out in my head how I want this site to look and function. I’m going out on the road tomorrow by myself, round trip will take me about 13 hours. So, I’m hoping by the time I return tomorrow night, I’ll have figured out most of those details.
Speaking about WordPress themes, I came across a site to build a WordPress theme without any programing skills on your part. check it out at WordPress Theme Generator , you may find it useful.
